Dominican Rallies to Edge Chestnut Hill

Lafayette Hill, PA (3/26/11) -- Dominican College rallied from a 9-8 deficit to defeat host Chestnut Hill College, 10-9, this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) men's lacrosse action. With the victory Dominican improves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Chestnut Hill falls to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.

Senior midfielders Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) and Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) led the Charger offense as each netted three goals and combined for assists in the victory.

Chestnut Hill College held a 3-0 lead with 8:20 left in the first period, when the Chargers charged back with three straight goals to tie the score at 3-3. Freshman midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) scored his third goal of the season on the man-up opportunity with 5:34 on the clock off the pass from Jones. One minute and 52 seconds later, Jones netted his first goal of the game off the assist from Peterson. Less than a minute later junior attacker Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) tied the game with an unassisted goal. The Griffins netted a goal with about a minute left to end the first period with a 4-3 advantage.

Freshman attacker Chris Delaney (Port Conquitlam, BC, Canada) once again tied the game, 4-4 with the unassisted goal with 8:59 left in the second period. Later down 5-4, Peterson netted his first goal of the game off the assist from Delaney to make the score 5-5 and CHC closed out scoring in the first half with a goal to make the score 6-5.

Jones's goal just 1:01 into the third period tied the game at 6-6, but a 2-0 spurt by the Griffins gave them an 8-6 advantage with 10:17 on the clock. DC answered back with their own 2-0 run as Peterson and Jones scored unassisted goals to make the score 8-8 after three periods of play.

The Griffins went up 9-8 on a goal with 13:45 left in regulation, but Peterson's unassisted goal with 10:19 on the clock tied the contest 9-9. Dertinger netted the game-winning goal on the man-up opportunity with just 1:34 to play off the pass from Jones for the 10-9 victory.

Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 12 saves in the victory.
