Brigandi Leads #4 Dolphins to 13-3 Win Over Molloy

Syracuse, N.Y. Junior midfielder Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/UMass) scored four goals to lead Le Moyne College to a 13-3 win over Molloy in non-conference action on Sunday at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

After going scoreless over the first 5:26 of the game, the Dolphins scored three times in a span of one minute and 30 seconds. Senior Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) got the scoring started with an unassisted tally into the top of the goal at the 24:34 mark.

After Le Moyne won the ensuing draw, senior Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) netted her ninth goal of the season with 23:50 remaining. Just 46 seconds later, senior midfielder Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored off a straightaway free-position shot.

The teams then traded goals over a stretch of nine minutes and 19 seconds. Le Moyne extended its lead to four with 19:51 left in the half as Brigandi scored off a feed from Elmer, but the Lions responded with their first goal just 32 seconds later as Emily Antonette registered her 25th goal of the season off a pass from Alexa Toscano.

Brigandi found the back of the net for the second time in less than two minutes with 18:03 left before Melanie Sosnowski, a transfer from Division I UAlbany, posted her 22nd goal of the year following a Le Moyne foul at the 15:15 mark. Senior midfielder Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) regained the four-goal lead for the Dolphins by converting off a free-position shot with 11:32 remaining.

Brigandi closed out the scoring in the half by completing her hat trick at the 8:17 mark after a Molloy foul.

Le Moyne scored the first five goals of the second half to take a double-digit lead. Phillips recorded her second goal of the game with 27:19 left after a pair of saves by Molloy goalkeeper Jackie Bove. Senior defender Katlin Walker (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) tallied her third goal in two games at the 25:49 mark by taking the ball the length of the field after junior goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) picked off a Molloy pass.

Just under four and one-half minutes later, sophomore Kelly Condon (Victor, N.Y./Canandaigua) found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) after Nies was fouled. Phillips completed her hat trick with 14:12 left after taking a pass from the right side by Condon. Junior Stephanie Dussing (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) extended Le Moyne's lead to 12-2 by scoring off a crossing pass from Condon with 11:28 remaining.

Molloy stopped Le Moyne's run of seven straight goals as Nicole DeAngelis scored off a rebound after Fucillo turned away her initial shot. Brigandi completed the game's scoring with 1:52 remaining after taking a pass from senior Leah Lazarz (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).

Fucillo registered double-digit saves for the 20th time in her career by turning away 10 Molloy shots. Bove made eight saves in between the pipes for the Lions in taking the loss.

Le Moyne (6-1), which has won six of its first seven games for the first time in the program's history, returns to action on Tuesday at Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption at 4:00 p.m.
