UMaine Farmington Pulls Away From Wheelock

BOSTON, MA - Wheelock College dropped a 16-4 decision to the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday at Winsor Field, pulling away during the latter portion of the opening half. The Wildcats slipped to 0-4 during their inaugural season, while the Beavers won for the first time in four contests, completing a two-day road trip to Massachusetts.

Sophomore Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) notched her second straight hat trick for Wheelock, while junior Karlye Kennedy (Byfield, MA/Triton Regional) also found the back of the net. Sophomore Alexandra Perry (Malden, MA/Malden) made 13 saves.

Junior Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, ME) recorded five goals and two assists for the visitors, while sophomore Aimee St. Germain (Gorham, ME) had four markers and a helper. Freshman Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, ME) finished with nine stops.

Sophomore Abbey Gilbert (Wilton, ME) scored after 18 seconds to stake the Beavers to an early edge, but Kennedy tallied at the 27:10 mark of the opening half to draw Wheelock even. Three straight goals by the visitors were met by a Savvoulides marker at 17:11, making the score 4-2, but UMaine Farmington followed by rattling off another 3-0 run, with St. Germain scoring once and assisting another. Savvoulides created a 7-3 margin at 8:28, just 24 seconds after St. Germain's goal, but the Beavers responded with the next seven markers prior to a Savvoulides tally with 7:30 left in the second half.

Wheelock plays for the second time in three days on Tuesday evening when it hosts Becker College at 7:00 p.m.
