No. 3 Rams Shut Down Arizona to Go 8-0

FORT COLLINS, Colo.- The CSU lacrosse team ended a double header weekend with a 17-5 win against the University of Arizona on Sunday. This is an exciting victory for the Rams to have as they approach next weekend's trip to Michigan.

"The focus of the week was defense. Our defense took a major step forward only giving up 10 goals over these two games," Head Coach Alex Smith said. "We will be put to the test in a major way next weekend against two very good teams. If we continue to play well defensively, we will give ourselves a chance."

The Rams came out quick, scoring several goals in the first quarter, and they continued the fast pace. At half time the Rams were ahead 11-3.

Although they were playing a top 20 team, the Rams decided to put most of the players on the field. There wasn't a lot of drop, according to Smith, which is promising for the future of the program.

The defense shined bright this weekend and the offensive execution was as good as they could ask for. "It's hard to say who I thought stood out today because I thought just about everyone played well," Smith said. "For Stephen Unkrich to get three goals after being out for a lot of the first half of the season, it gives us that one more big scoring threat."

Next weekend the Rams will face a challenging and exciting road trip to Michigan. "Michigan is playing extremely well right now and Michigan State is a very good up and coming team as well. We will need to use our depth in a positive way and clear the ball well next weekend. We are looking forward to the challenge and if we play hard, then we'll let the chips fall as they may."
