Dominican Downs Wilmington in CACC Action

Hillburn, NY (3/28/11) -- Dominican netted seven goals in the second half to defeat the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington, 12-6, this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action held at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. With the victory Dominican improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the 'Cats fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2.

Senior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) led all scorers with a season high four goals on the night, while freshman midfielder Traci-Joan Muniz (Middlesex, NJ) tallied three goals and one assist. Midfielders Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Maggie Brocklebank (Long Branch, NJ) each scored two goals a piece in the victory.

Freshman goalie Amanda Caprio (Point Pleasant, NJ) had a spectacular night in the night, making a season high 18 saves.

Wilmington netted the game's first goal just 0:38 second into the contest, but the Lady Chargers rallied with three consecutive goals, spanning a period of 6:50 to take a 3-1 lead. Kiernan scored her first goal of the game off the assist from Muniz with 20:03 remaining in the first half and Brocklebank followed with her 10th goal of the season about 2:36 later. Muniz recorded an unassisted goal with 22:13 left in the first half.

Wilmington answered back with their own 3-0 run to re-claim a 4-3 advantage, but an unassisted goal by Karlsen with 0:48 on the clock tied the score at 4-4. With 0:01 remaining before halftime, Kiernan made a nice run down field and tallied her second goal of the game to tie the score 5-5 at the break.

Dominican continued on their scoring run with six more goals to complete a 6-0 run and outscored the Wildcats, 7-1 in the second half. Kiernan completed the hat trick with her third goal of the game off the pass from Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) just 52 seconds into the second half to take a 6-5 lead. Karlsen followed with her team leading 13th goal of the season off the pass from Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, NJ) and Kiernan later converted a free position shot to give DC an 8-5 lead with 22:56 left to play.

Junior midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) netted her first goal of the game and 10th overall 6:20 later and Brocklebank followed with her second goal of the game to put the Lady Chargers ahead 10-5.

A Wilmington goal with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation made the score 10-6, but Muniz closed with the game with two consecutive goals, one off a free position shot and the other off a pass from Kiernan to give Dominican the 12-6 victory.
