Mercyhurst Rolls in 20-2 Win Over Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst (2-3) offense erupted for 20 goals and the defense held Seton Hill (0-1) to just a pair of scores for a 20-2 final in Greensburg.

The Lakers outscored the Griffins 10-1 in each half to pick up the win. Nine of Mercyhurst's 10 first half goals came in the opening 15 minutes before the Griffins got on the board with their only goal of the half.

Mercyhurst struck quickly in the second half as well, scoring the first seven goals of the period, including scoring off the opening draw.

Breanna Haggerty scored a game-high four goals and added an assist. Four players scored three goals apiece. Page Christiansen and Kelsey French both had three goals and an assist, while Kristen Toomey and Katy Miller also found the back of the net three times. Jessie Horeth added a pair of goals, and Angela Schumerth and Rebecca Heintzman scored a goal apiece.

Eight different players scored goals for Mercyhurst.

Megan Foley started in goal for Mercyhurst and played the first 51:34, making four saves and allowing both Seton Hill goals. Stephanie Obsitnik finished the game and made two saves.

Janette Kristich scored both goals for the Griffins, who were playing their season opener. Lauren Smith made 11 saves in goal.

Mercyhurst held a 31-8 advantage in shots.

The Lakers will try to climb back to .500 with their home opener at Tullio Feild on Sunday, March 19 against East Stroudsburg. The opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
