Hartwick Edges Keuka, 13-12, for Fourth Win

PENN YAN, NY Freshman Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ) and sophomore Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) scored the final two goals of the game in the last 7:04 to lift Hartwick past Keuka, 13-12, on Tuesday night at Penn Yan Academy. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 4-1 on the season and have eclipsed the win totals of each of the last three seasons.

Hartwick led for over 34 straight minutes in the game, taking its biggest lead (11-7) with 26:13 remaining in the contest on Kate O'Shea's (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) first career goal. The Storm surged back in front, however, with five consecutive goals over a 17:31 span to take a 12-11 advantage with 8:26 to play.

The Keuka lead was short-lived as Sisco answered on a free-position tally just 1:22 after the hosts took gained the upper hand. Scicchitano put the Hawks in front for good with another free-position effort 36 seconds later. Sisco won the ensuing draw and Hartwick maintained possession for the final six and a half minutes to secure the victory.

The Hawks were led by junior Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/East-South Manor) who scored three goals apiece. Walsh added two assists and two caused turnovers. McCabe scored all three of her goals in the opening 20 minutes of action. She contributed four ground balls, two draws, and one helper.

Sisco and junior Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon) each added two tallies apiece. Sisco registered a game-high five draw controls. Kennedy tied for a game-best six ground balls and added three draws, and two caused turnovers.

The two teams traded goals over the first 13 minutes of the game before the Storm took a 3-2 lead. Hartwick then gained the advantage with three goals in a 52-second span. McCabe (2g, 1a) and Walsh (1g) accounted for all the scoring in the spurt.

Keuka gained a goal back but Sisco and McCabe extended the Hartwick advantage to three, 7-4. The Storm then scored three more times to close out the half, including two scores in the final 1:24 and one with one second left to cut their deficit to 8-7.

Three goals in the first 3:47 of the second half handed the Hawks an 11-7 lead. The big comeback for the hosts, however, put them in front before the late Hartwick heroics in the final seven minutes.

Hartwick led Keuka narrowly in shots (31-29), ground balls (25-24), and draws (14-12). Keeper Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) stopped seven shots in cage. She also forced two Storm turnovers.

Keuka's Brandy Shafer led all players with eight points on six goals and two assists. Brittany Murray chipped in with three goals and goalie Molly Hogan made 11 saves.

Hartwick opens up Empire 8 Conference play this weekend on the road. The Hawks play at Alfred on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and travel to Utica College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
