Adelphi Snaps Dominican's Streak, Goes 6-1

Garden City, NY (3/30/11) -- Dominican College had a two-game winning streak snapped by host, Adelphi University, 14-6 this afternoon in a non conference game. With the win, the Panthers improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 2-6 overall.

Senior midfielder Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) and freshman attacker Collin Madsen (Salt Lake City, UT) each netted two goals a piece in the loss. Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) and Jesse Peterson (Sasktaoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) tallied two assists each.

Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made six saves in the loss.

Adelphi held an early 2-0 lead in the first period when Madsen scored his first goal of the game off a pass from Pierce to cut the deficit to 2-1 with 2:44 to go in the first period. AU closed out the first period and used the first 3:20 of the second period to go on a 5-0 run to build up a 7-1 advantage.

Freshman midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) netted his fourth goal of the season on the man-up opportunity off the assist from Peterson to make the score 7-2, but an AU goal 6:40 later rebuilt an six-goal lead (8-2). Madsen netted his second goal of the game with 1:44 on the clock before halftime off another assist by Peterson to cut the lead to 8-3 after two periods of play.

Dominican continued on their run with two consecutive goals in the third period as Jones netted the unassisted goal just 49 seconds into the period and Peterson followed off the assist from Pierce about a minute later to bring DC within three goals (8-5).

The Panthers went on a 5-0 run that spanned the last 13 minutes of the third period and the first 4:30 of the fourth period to rebuild a 13-5 advantage. Jones stopped the run with an unassisted goal with 9:30 left to play, but Adelphi closed out the scoring with a goal with just under seven minutes remaining for the 14-6 victory.
