Misericordia Edges Lebanon Valley in MAC Action

DALLAS, Pa. - Malik Pedroso's four goals weren't enough to get Lebanon Valley past Misericordia as the Dutchmen came out on the wrong end of a 9-7 game on Wednesday.

The Dutchmen (3-5, 1-2 MAC) played even with the Cougars (6-2, 2-1 MAC), but ultimately couldn't make up a 5-2 halftime deficit after Misericordia scored two second-quarter goals to take control of the game.

Pedroso turned in a five-point game with four goals - all in the second half - and an assist, and Alex Beard scored twice. Jordan Mayr had a goal and an assist, and Ian Schmid added two helpers for LVC.

Kyle Calabro led Misericordia with four goals, and Lee Blair and Zachary Buckley both had two scores.

An even game statistically, the teams were tied 28-28 on shots and MU held a 10-9 edge on face-offs. Both teams scored twice on man-up chances, with LVC converting both of their opportunities in the second half.

MU took a quick lead on opening goals by Matt Gonzalez and Calabro, but Beard got LVC on the board midway through the quarter off Ian Schmid's feed. Calabro made it 3-1 before Jordan Mayr scored 1:09 from the end of the quarter.

Misericordia hit a 3-0 run to go up 6-2, however, scoring twice in the second quarter and getting the first goal of the second just 13 seconds in to take full control. Pedroso's goal with 11:21 left in the third stopped the bleeding, and he scored two more to cut it to 7-5, but Buckley scored what would hold up as the game-winner five minutes into the fourth. Pedroso and Beard tacked on late goals around Calabro's fourth.

Bryan Lockward made four saves with the loss in 30 minutes of first-half play; Mike Moll made five stops in relief. Ryan Kay earned the win with seven saves.

LVC returns home to host DeSales on Saturday.
