Privateers Drop Skyline Match to Ramapo

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 30, 2011) Maritime lost to Skyline Conference foe Ramapo College, 17-6, Wednesday night at Reinhart Field. The Privateers' record drops to 1-7, 0-4 on the season, while the Roadrunners improve to 3-3, 1-2.

Ramapo scored early and often, as they tallied six goals to start the game, before Maritime could get on the board with two straight goals by junior Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and classmate Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North). Ramapo secured the game with seven of the next five goals.

The Privateers were led by Saporito who scored three goals, while grabbing four groundballs and winning four draws. The junior was also able to cause one turnover to round up her night. Brady netted two goals, snatched one groundball and controlled one draw, while also forcing one turnover.

Senior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) rounded out the scoring with her ninth goal of the season. Sophomore goalie Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had 11 saves and picked four groundballs.

The Roadrunners were led by junior Amanda Barretta who sent a game-high five balls to the net, gave away one assist and won four draws. Sophomore Adrianna Tepedino scored twice, while registering three assists and grabbing four groundballs.

The Privateers will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Skyline Conference opponent Bard College. The first draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
