Dolphins' Winning Streak Snapped by Farmingdale

Farmingdale, N.Y. -- The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team had its four game winning streak snapped and was handed its first league loss of the season on Wednesday after a 17-9 defeat at Farmingdale St. Senior Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with five points and six draw controls.

After Mount Saint Vincent scored two of the first three goals of the game, the Rams netted four straight in a three minute span to jump out to a 5-2 lead with 13:34 left in the first half.

Mount Saint Vincent cut the deficit to 6-4 after Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Mitchell scored, but a Krystin Shand tally for Farmingdale St. with just under a minute left in the half sent the Rams to halftime with a three goal edge at 7-4.

Farmingdale St. came out of halftime and scored the first three goals in the half to pull in front by six and never left the Mount closer then five goals the rest of the contest. The Rams used a four goal run over inside the final 10 minutes to pull in front by its largest margin of the day at 15-6.

Mitchell and Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) were the only multi goal scorers in the game for Mount Saint Vincent. Mitchell finished with two assists and three goals, while Flores potted a pair of markers and added a helper. The two also combined for nine of the team's 16 draw controls.

Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.), Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Woerner were the other goal scorers for the Dolphins, with Perla also chipping in with an assist.

Farmingdale St. was paced on the day by five goals and eight points from Justine Rothar, while Emily Williams added five points with three goals and two assists. The Rams featured six goal scorers in the game and four with at least three goals.

Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) went the distance in goal for the Dolphins and finished the day with eight saves and a pair of groundballs. Courtney Cook picked up the win for Farmingdale St. with 10 stops.

Mount Saint Vincent was outshot in the game 30-27 and the Rams also held the edge in groundballs 17-12. The Dolphins went 0 for 7 in free position chances, while the Rams converted three of their five opportunities.

Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 4-3 overall on the season and to 3-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon when they travel to league rival Ramapo. Opening draw with the Roadrunners is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
