Hilbert Home Opener Spoiled by Storm

Orchard Park, NY In Hilbert's inaugural home opener, Kori Halftown (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda) and Sean Purtill (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scored two goals apiece in what turned into a 14-4 soggy loss for the Hawks.

Keuka (2-4) used their varsity experience to guide them through the tough conditions and played with fewer penalties. Pat Lunderman (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) faced 32 shots and made 14 saves as the Hawks were outshot by 10.

Hilbert won the face-off battle (11 out of 20) but had fewer clears and ground balls (31-24). Keuka led by only two at the end of the first period (4-2) and padded that with two more goals by half time. Geno Marcello scored five goals for Keuka all in the first three quarters. His teammate Mark Butto netted four goals, all in the third and fourth quarters when the Hawks were trying to play catch up.

Hilbert's fifth ranked national points per game player, Ryan Wagner (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) picked up five ground balls, and won six of his eight face-offs, but none of his seven shots made it past Keuka's keeper. Halftown fired away at the net with two of his seven shots counting in the scoring column. All of Hilbert's goals were unassisted.

Hilbert (4-2) looks forward to their next game April 6 against Cazenovia which will be played at Morrisville State.
