Shepherd Falls to IUP Offensive Barrage

INDIANA, Pa. Coleen Berlin scored five goals and Becca Vogt added three goals and three assists to lead Indiana University of Pennsylvania to a 20-11 win over Shepherd University in women's lacrosse action on Thursday night.

Freshman attack/midfielder Shannon Carta (Davidsonville, MD/South River) scored three goals and added three assists to pace the Rams.

Freshman attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) notched three goals, while sophomore attack Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) tallied two goals and an assist.

Freshman attack Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, MD/Westminster) had a goal and a pair of assists. Freshman attack Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and classmate Alexa Plumley (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) each scored a goal, while sophomore attack/midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) had an assist.

Freshman Emily Melanson (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had 18 saves in goal for the Rams. Kaitlin Sterling (4), katherin Davis (7), and Chelsey Hipp (2) combined for 13 saves for the Crimson Hawks.

Indiana (Pa.) had a 46-26 advantage in shots and an 18-12 edge in ground balls.

The Crimson Hawks had a 15-5 lead at halftime.

Shepherd falls to 5-4, while IUP improves to 5-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a noon contest.
