Lincoln Nets Five as #10 Hofstra Downs Towson

- Lincoln recorded his third “hat trick” of the season and had his second five-goal game of the year ... He also had five goals against Harvard on March 5.

- Sophomore attackman Matt Hughes had his 10-game point-scoring streak snapped ... The Tigers' leading scorer with 12 goals and four assists this season, Hughes had also scored a goal in three straight games.

- Mezzanotte scored his first goal since May 1, 2010 when he tallied his lone goal of the season against Hofstra in a 12-10 loss at Shuart Stadium ... Of Mezzanotte's five career goals, two of them have been scored against the Pride.

- Mezzanotte also recorded the second multi-point game of his career ... He had two assists in the Tigers' win over Mount St. Mary's on March 5.

- Domanic scored the second goal of his college career against the Pride on Saturday ... It was his first goal since April 26, 2009 against Penn at Unitas Stadium.

Towson, MD – Senior Jamie Lincoln tied his season-high with five goals and junior Andrew Gvozden made eight saves to lead the 10th-ranked Hofstra Pride to a 12-5 CAA victory over the Towson Tigers at Johnny Unitas Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Hofstra, which won its third consecutive game, improved to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Towson fell to 2-6 and 0-2 in the CAA.

The Pride blew the game open in the third quarter scoring six times during a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 lead after three quarters. Lincoln's five goals equaled his five against Harvard on March 5.

Senior Stephen Bentz added two goals and one assist while sophomore Ian Braddish chipped in with one goal and two assists. The Tigers were led by junior Matt Lamon with two goals while goalie Travis Love posted 11 saves in the Towson cage.

Towson got on the board first as Matt Lamon notched his seventh of the season off a pass to the crease from Sean McGuire 2:28 into the contest.

But the Pride responded with back-to-back goals by senior Jamie Lincoln. He scored his 15th of the season just 16 seconds after the Tiger goal on a pass to the side of the goal from John Antoniades to tie the game. Lincoln tallied his second of the game when he raked in a rebound of a Brad Loizeaux shot that was stopped by Love, with 2:41 to play in the quarter.

The Tigers tied the game 1:36 into the second quarter as senior Peter Mezzanotte took a pass from Andrew Hodgson and fired in a bullet from 15 yards. Towson took a brief 3-2 lead with 2:09 to play in the half as senior Elliott Domanic fed Lamon, who beat Gvozden from five yards out.

Hofstra came right back on the ensuing face-off with senior Steven DeNapoli picking up the ground ball, charging the Tiger goal and beating Love on a bounce shot just 10 second later to tie the game at 3-3.

Hofstra took a 4-3 lead just 4:14 into the second half as senior Stephen Bentz picked up a loose ball in front of the Towson cage off a Tiger turnover and fed Lincoln for a jump shot goal.

Lincoln scored his fourth of the game and 18th of the year, taking a short bounce pass from Ian Braddish and beating Love from seven yards in front for a 5-3 lead with 5:58 to play in the third. Sophomore Adrian Sorichetti notched his third of the season, on the run from six yards out to the left side of Love, two minutes later for a 6-3 advantage.

Bentz then scored his 15th of the season, coming out from behind the goal at the 2:26 mark. Antoniades scored his first of the year five seconds later, winning the face-off and going in on Love. IBraddish ended the Pride seven-goal run with his eighth of the season with 56 seconds to play in the third period.
