Visiting Molloy Takes ECC Victory from Dominican

Orangeburg, NY (4/2/11) The visiting Lions of Molloy topped host Dominican College, 16-10, this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) action played on the DC Lacrosse Field. With the win Molloy improves to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Dominican falls to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.

Sophomore attacker Connor Lawlor (Neptune City, NJ) led the Chargers with four goals and two assists on the day for a total of six points. Seniors Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB, Canada) and Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) each netted two goals a-piece in the loss.

Senior goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 17 saves in the loss.

Molloy did all of the scoring in the first period and and scored the first three goals of the second period to take a 6-0 lead. Dominican netted their first goal of the contest with 0:14 left before halftime as junior attacker Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) netted his ninth goal of the season to make the score 6-1.

The Lions tacked on a goal with 0:01 on the clock before halftime to go ahead 7-1 and netted the first two goals of the third period to go up 9-1. Peterson scored his first goal of the game on the man-up opportunity with 9:11 left in the third period and Lawlor followed with his first goal of the season off the assist from Peterson to cut the deficit to 9-3.

DC completed a 3-0 run as Jones recorded his 18th goal of the season with 5:10 left in the third period to make the score 9-4. An MC goal nine seconds later regained a six-goal lead (10-4).

Just about three minutes later Jones netted his team leading 19th goal of the year off Lawlor's fourth assist of the season for a 10-5 score. Molloy closed out third period scoring with a goal for an 11-5 lead.

One minute and 12 seconds into the last period of play, the Lions tallied their 12 goal of the game, but the Chargers came back with four consecutive goals to make the score 12-9. Lawlor used a pass from junior Michael Holl (Montvale, NJ) to score his second goal of the game and completed the hat trick ten seconds later on the man-up opportunity off the assist from Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY).

Dertinger scored with his first goal of the game after the pass from Lawlor and Lawlor netted the unassisted goal with 9:47 left in the contest. Molloy answered back with their own 4-0 run to go ahead 16-9, but Dominican netted the game's last goal as Peterson scored his 15th goal of the season with 0:40 on the clock for the final 16-10 score.
