Egan Helps Randolph-Macon Outgun Bridgewater

ASHLAND, VA Behind seven goals and five assists from Kelly Egan, Randolph-Macon scored a 23-14 ODAC victory over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon in Ashland.

R-MC (5-4/3-0 ODAC) also got six goals from Elyse Cooper and four goals from both Rachel Johnsen and Erin Clare Cassidy in the win as well.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead six minutes into the game on a goal from Cassidy and two scores by Egan.

BC (4-7/2-3 ODAC) bounced back, scoring three of the next four goals, cutting the R-MC lead to 4-3 on a Leslie Crawford free-position shot with 19:27 to play in the half.

An Egan goal just seven seconds later, sparked a 5-0 R-MC run which was capped by a Cooper goal with just over 19 minutes to play that put the Jackets up 9-3.

After Aili Knapp made the score 9-4, R-MC rattled off three straight goals from Egan, Audrey Hester and Johnsen to make the score 12-4 with 6:32 to go in the half.

The Eagles got three straight scores to pull within five at 12-7 before Cassidy struck with 1:34 left in the first stanza to send the teams to the locker room with R-MC ahead 13-7.

Egan would set up Cooper three consecutive times to start the second half, with the last goal pushing R-MC in front 16-7 with just over 22 minutes to go in the game.

BC scored three goals of its own to make the score 16-10 with just under 19 minutes to play, but that would be as close as the Eagles would get as R-MC scored six unanswered goals to put the game away with Cassidy setting up Johnsen to put the Jackets up 22-10 with 7:14 to go.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action at home on Sunday when it takes on ODAC rival Roanoke at 2:00 p.m.
