Maritime Drops Home Conference Contest to Bard

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 2, 2011) Maritime lost to visiting Skyline Conference-foe Bard College, 13-11, Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The defeat drops the Privateers' record to 1-8 overall (0-5 Skyline), while the Raptors improve to 3-4 (2-2 Skyline).

Junior Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) scored five goals for Maritime, while also recording a game-high four groundballs and six draw controls. Classmate Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and senior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) both scored three goals apiece. In goal, sophomore Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) had seven saves for the Privateers.

The Raptors were led by freshman Stephanie LaMont, who scored five goals and registered one assist. Three players scored two goals for Bard: freshman Brianna Bean and juniors Kim Larie and Farah Akhtar. Junior Jessica Philpott and sophomore Bridget Reddington rounded out the scoring for the Raptors. Senior goalie Hannah Becker earned the victory by making eight saves.

The Privateers return to action on Tuesday, April 5, when they play host to Skyline-opponent Kean. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
