Occidental Falls to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

LOS ANGELES, Calif. For the fans in attendance, the score does not represent the game they watched on Patterson Field Saturday afternoon against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas. The Athenas entered the game undefeated in conference play but were rattled by a great overall effort by the Tigers.

The first half had both teams showing great defensive efforts. Despite the Athenas getting a 3-0 lead, the Tigers showed they would not back down. The Tigers responded with three unanswered goals of their own, making it a tie game about halfway into the first half.

The Tigers defense made it difficult for the Athenas to penetrate into the crease, making them work for every shot they took. The Athenas were held to only eleven shots before going into the half leading the Tigers 5-4.

The second half began with an arms race between the teams, until Occidental would tie the game 8-8, almost halfway into the second stanza. The Athenas would show just how important obtaining draw controls is, as they would obtain seven of the remaining nine in route to a 8-1 run making their lead 16-9.

Occidental goalie Kylie McPherson had a personal best 10 saves during the game, as the Tigers fought to stick with the visiting Athenas.

Isabel Osgood-Roach obtained four of the Tigers ten draw controls in the game as Rebecca Belding would net her second hat-trick on the season.

The Tigers (3-8, 0-3 SCIAC) will host Whittier College in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, Wednesday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m.
