#3 Mustangs Romp on Sr. Day vs. Marymount

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by a career-high five goals from freshman Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier), Stevenson had 13 players score at least one goal as the the No. 3-ranked Mustangs scored a season-high 25 goals en route to a 25-7 victory over Marymount (Va.) Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex on Senior Day.

The win marked the 14th-straight at home for Stevenson (11-1, 4-0 CAC) who totaled its fourth 20-goal game this season and third-straight.

The Saints (2-9, 0-3 CAC) scored first on a goal by Jeff Cook only 3:34 into the game and led 2-1 following Cook's second with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter. The Mustangs have allowed the game's first goal just four times this season.

Five different players scored in the first quarter for Stevenson who led 6-2 before Marymount scored two of the first three to open the second to pull within three at 7-4 with 11:12 left.

However, that would be as close as the Saints would get as the Mustangs scored the game's next 17 consecutive goals, including 10 in the final 7:17 of the second quarter. During that 10-goal run, the team netted goals just seven and six seconds apart, both of which involved Reid and senior Neal Barthelme (Towson/Dulaney).

Reid finished with five goals and seven points, both career-highs, while Bartheleme had six points and four goals to increase his team-leading total to 40 goals this season. Barthelme was one of six Stevenson seniors who scored on Saturday, including Mark Dwyer (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) who netted his first of the season.

Junior Jake Serfas (Hampstead/North Carroll) also picked up his first goal of the year with a fourth-quarter tally.

The game that featured 23 penalties, the Mustangs scored on seven of its 16 extra-man opportunities, including three-straight in a span of 27 seconds in the second quarter.

Stevenson also won 27 of 34 face-offs with senior Ray Witte (Annapolis/St. Peter and Paul) winning 14 of 16 and senior Joe Valderas (Baltimore/Cardinal Gibbons) winning 8 of 9.

Defensively, senior Evan Douglass (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) had four more caused turnovers and three ground balls while junior Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) earned his 11th win of the season, making one save in 34 minutes.

Cook led the Saints with two goals and two assists. Ross Fernandez had 11 saves.

Stevenson concludes the regular season with five consecutive road games, beginning on Wednesday when the team travels to Frostburg State for a CAC contest at 4:00 p.m.
