Sixth-Ranked Merrimack Storms Past Pace

NORTH ANDOVER, MA The sixth-ranked Merrimack men's lacrosse team got back on track, defeating Pace University 17-4 Sunday afternoon in conference action.

The Warriors dominated the first, outshooting Pace 19-2 and took a 4-1 lead as Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA) netted two first-quarter goals.

They rattled off two more in the second, leading 6-1 with 10:36 left in the second and took a 7-2 lead at halftime behind second-quarter goals from Terence Barclay (Babylon, NY), Michael Balbuena (Falmouth, MA), and Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ).

Merrimack outshot Pace 37-5 in the first half, while forcing 16 Setter turnovers through the first 30 minutes.

The hosts tacked on six more in the third, two from Nick Vazquez (Haverhill, MA), while Matt Klepper (Manlius, NY) notched his first collegiate goal, taking a feed from Barclay at 5:02.

Melaugh led the way with three goals and four points, while nine other Warriors picked up goals, including multi-goal performances from Barclay (three), Balbuena (two), Vazquez (two) and Klepper (two). Lunney finished with a goal and two assists, while Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) also had a goal and two helpers.

Connor Reagan (East Lyme, CT) stopped two shots in net for the victory.

Merrimack (6-2, 3-1 NE-10) opens a three-game road trip at Franklin Pierce Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
