Roanoke Explodes in 2nd Half to Rout Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- Roanoke outscored Randolph-Macon, 13-1 in the second half en route to a 22-7 win in ODAC action. The Maroons improve to 6-5 overall, 3-2 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets slip to 5-5, 3-1 in the ODAC.

The Maroons won 19 of 30 draw controls, out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 42-14, and won the groundball battle, 22-10. They were successful in 13 of 14 clear attempts. Roanoke is now 30-15-1 all-time against their ODAC-foe, winning four of the last five meetings.

The contest was tight in the first 17-minutes of play as Randolph-Macon held a slim 5-4 advantage. Erin Clare Cassidy scored three goals over that span for the Yellow Jackets.

Then Roanoke answered back by scoring five of the last six goals to take a 9-6 halftime edge. Jamie Golden (Timonium, MD, Notre Dame) netted three of her season-high five goals in the final 12-minutes of the first stanza.

The Maroons opened the second half with eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 17-6 lead. R-MC got back on the scoreboard with Cassidy's team-best fourth goal to end the run with 10:17 remaining.

Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster ) led all scorers with six goals and three assists for nine points in addition to four draw controls. The second-highest scorer in ODAC-History now has 348 career points, which puts her currently 19th on the NCAA all-time scoring list. She is now sixth on the school's career groundballs list (214) while her 172 career draw controls are 16th on the NCAA all-time list.

Meegan Rourke (Greenwich, CT, Millbrook School) totaled seven points with five goals and two assists followed by Golden's five-goal, one assist performance. Rourke added five groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Allison Bonanno (Ridgewood, NJ, Ridgewood) shared the wealth with dishing out four assists. Carolyn Miller (Clinton, MD, St. Mary's Ryken) had two goals, one assist and a game-best three caused turnovers. Laura Eastlake also contributed two goals and an assist for the Maroons.

Kelly Eagan finished with two goals and an assist for R-MC while Cassidy won six draw controls.

The trio of Lyndsey Jones (Easton, MD, St. Peter and Paul), Laura Zdziarski (Gainesville, FL, Buchholz) and Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) combined for four saves on the afternoon. Alex Flammia totaled 13 saves for the Yellow Jackets.

The women return to action on Tuesday, April 5, when they host Randolph College in conference action. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
