Ramapo Deals Dolphins 2nd Straight Conference Loss

Mahwah, N.J. After reeling off four straight wins and averaging 20 goals per game over that stretch, Mount Saint Vincent has been held to 21 goals total in two straight defeats, including a 17-12 Skyline loss at Ramapo on Sunday afternoon.

Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) netted three goals for the Dolphins, while Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with four points.

The two teams split the first six goals of the game over the opening 12 minutes on Sunday. Ramapo scored the first two, before the Dolphins answered with two straight. Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) netted the back-to-back goals, before the two teams traded goals again for a 3-3 tie with 17:58 to go in the half.

The Roadrunners would open a six goal lead after breaking the tie with six straight covering a nearly 12 minute stretch. Amanda Barretta scored three times for the Roadrunners over that span as they held a 9-3 advantage with 4:15 left before the break.

Mount Saint Vincent would close the half with three of the last four goals of the half, including two from Woerner to close the gap on the Roadrunners to 10-6 after 30 minutes of play. Ramapo held a 19-17 edge in shots in the opening stanza, while the Mount held the advantage in groundballs 10-8 and draw controls 9-8.

Diana Lawless (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) brought the Dolphins to within 10-7 with her sixth goal of the season 2:18 into the second half. Three goals would be as close as the Dolphins would get the remainder of the day, as Ramapo went on another big run, ripping off six of the next eight goals to pull in front 16-9 with 15:16 left in regulation time.

The Dolphins would score three straight in the final 13 minutes, including one from Woerner and two from Flores, to get to within 16-12, but a goal from Adrianna Tepedino with 1:28 left closed out the scoring a sealed the victory for the Roadrunners.

Flores led five Dolphins with multiple points with four on the strength of two goals and a pair of assists. She also scooped three groundballs and won four draw controls for the Dolphins. Flores also caused six turnovers on the day to lead the team.

Woerner finished the day with three goals and led the team with five draw controls. She chipped in with a groundball and a caused turnover for the Dolphins. Mitchell and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) finished with two goals, while Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.) netted a goal and assisted on another.

Barretta and Tepedino combined for 12 of Ramapo's 17 goals, with each scoring six in the game. Tepedino went a perfect 5 for 5 in free position chances and posted three draw controls. Diana Silva earned the win for the Roadrunners in goal with 11 saves.

For the game, Ramapo outshot Mount Saint Vincent 34-33, while the Dolphins held the edge in groundballs 14-12 and draw controls 16-15. Ramapo finished the game 6 for 11 in free position shots, while the Mount scored just once in six chances.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back to .500 at 4-4 overall and to 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will aim to get back on track Thursday night when they travel to Kean for a key league contest. Opening draw with the Cougars is set for 7:00 p.m.
