Royals Put on a Clinic at Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Amanda Martin led the Royals with six goals this evening as they put on a clinic at Converse, defeating the Valkyries 25-12 in Conference Carolinas action. Queens improves to 8-6 overall with the win (4-1 CC), while Converse falls to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in the league.

Aiding Martin this evening was Brittany Philip who netted four goals and one assist. Kristi Kemp, Arika Zimmerman, and Emily Balmer also contributed in high fashion as each recorded a hat trick in the win. Shannon Casey led all players in the assist category with eight to go along with her two goals.

The Valkyries were led by Lacey Bevilacqua who collected four points on three goals and one assists. She also had four ground balls and four draw controls. Brianna Hoffman and Jennifer Tropiano each tallied two goals apiece.

With the score sitting at 3-2 in favor of Converse, Philip of Queens scored a goal assisted by Casey to tie the game up with 23:47 on the clock. The Royals then scored six straight goals to taking over control of the game and never looking back. At the break, Queens led 14-8.

The Valkyries began the second half of play with the momentum notching three goals back-to-back bringing them to within three of the Royals, 14-11. However, Queens was able to find the juice and put the nail in the coffin as they pieced together a 10-to-0 run stretching the lead to 13. One final goal scored by each team would give the game a 25-12 score at the final horn.

Chelsea Lancashire was awarded the win in goal for Queens after getting 12 stops. Tabitha Chamblee took the loss in goal for Converse after collecting six saves.

The Royals dominated gaining possession of the ball today winning 26 draw controls to Converse's 13 while also scooping up 42 ground balls to home team's 27.

Next, Queens will compete against Pfeiffer on Saturday, April 9th at noon in Misenheimer, N.C. In the first meeting at the Queens Sports Complex the season, the Falcons were victorious with a 16-13 win.
