Second Half Streak Leads #17 Etown Past Alvernia

Manheim, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2011) - Seventeenth ranked Elizabethtown College (8-2, 6-0) scored seven straight goals early in the second half to bulit a comfortable lead en route to a 21-8 win over Alvernia University (8-2, 5-2) Wednesday afternoon at Manheim High School.

Etown scored five of the first six goals of the game and kept Alvernia from putting together back-to-back goals until there was less than a minute left in the first half when Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored two straight to send Alvernia to the break trailing 12-6.

Etown added two more over the first two minutes of the second half then after another from Verrillo ran off seven straight for a 21-7 lead.

Verrillo finished with five goals and three other players scored a goal each for Alvernia. Etown had four different players score hat tricks.

Alvernia sophomore Vicky Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made five saves as did backup Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert). Etown goalie Rachael Waldman made 11 saves in the win.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule hosting Misericordia on Saturday.
