Cunningham Paces Endicott in Victory over Big Blue

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Kellie Cunningham (Derry, N.H.) tallied a season-high six goals to help lead Endicott College to a 20-6 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening under the lights at the Big Blue Turf.

The Gulls (8-3) improve to 7-0 in league contests, while the Nor'easters now stand at 3-8 overall, 2-5 in TCCC outings.

Sophomore Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) added four scores for the visitors, while junior Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) chipped with five points on three goals and two assists. Senior Molly Sowles (Yarmouth, Maine) and sophomore Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) each recorded a pair of markers.

In goal for Endicott, junior Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) posted 12 stops in just over 49 minutes to earn the victory, before giving way to first-year Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) for the remaining time.

UNE was led by first-year Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) with three goals. Sophomore Cara Cole (Norwood, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist, while senior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) and first-year Sadie MacLean (Henniker, N.H.) notched the other Big Blue scores.

Cunningham scored twice in the opening 10 minutes as the Gulls established a 4-1 cushion. The Nor'easters responded with goals from Cate and Tavella to make it 4-3 at the 15:56 mark of the first half, before Endicott put in four of the last five in the period to double-up the hosts (8-4) at the break.

Davis found the back of the cage for three scores in a span of 2:13 early in the second to help the Gulls begin to extend the lead. Endicott out-scored UNE, 12-2, after halftime to close out the game.

The Gulls finished with a 34-27 edge in shots during the match, as well as similar margins in ground balls (21-15) and draw controls (16-10).

Endicott is back at it on Saturday, hosting TCCC foe New England College at 3:00 p.m. The Nor'easters, who received 10 saves from first-year goalie Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine), are on the road the same day with a conference contest at Anna Maria College (12:00 p.m.).
