Washington & Jefferson Falls in OT to Allegheny

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Monique Villanueva scored 1:08 into overtime to lift Allegheny to an 18-17 women's lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (7-2) lost for the second consecutive game in overtime after also falling to NCAC opponent Wittenberg 11-10 on Saturday. Allegheny (8-4) received six goals and two assists from Jensen Paterson. Washington & Jefferson led for nearly all of regulation.

The Presidents built a 7-3 first-half lead before the Gators closed to within 10-8 at halftime. W&J appeared to take control after a goal by junior attacker Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) four minutes into the second half made it a 13-8 Presidents' lead, but five-straight goals by Allegheny in a 3:43 span tied the contest.

The squads traded goals four times the rest of the way and Paterson's goal with 25 seconds left forced the sixth time of the match. Paterson's goal at the 8:41 mark gave AC its first lead, but that only lasted 2:09.

Villanueva scored the only goal of overtime early and the Gators possessed the ball for the remainder of the match to earn the win. Kiah Voyer-Colbath added four goals for Allegheny which had seven different players find the back of the net.

Allegheny used a large 27-12 edge in draw controls and and held a 37-32 shot advantage. Becca O'Shurak made 11 saves in the cage.

W&J was led by sophomore midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG), who netted six goals on eight shot attempts. Novak added four goals and one assist, while senior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) produced two goals and one assist.

Sophomore goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) took the loss despite making 11 stops. W&J looks to halt its two-game losing streak Saturday at home versus Saint Vincent (1:00 pm).
