Second Half Secures Poets Win over Tigers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 6, 2011) Despite the Tigers keeping it close in the first half, Whittier College scored 14 points in the second half to obtain their second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season.

Six Tigers got on the scoreboard Wednesday night, as they tried to come from behind. The first half saw the Tigers tie up the game at one all and again at two all before the Tigers grabbed an early 3-2 lead, halfway through the first half. Unfortunately for the Tigers, that would be the last lead they would have against the Poets.

Despite the Tigers only being down by two points going into halftime, Whittier would spend the second half extending their two-point lead to six. Whittier was led by Freshman Midfielder Shaina Denny, who seemed unstoppable as she found the back of the net eleven times, throughout the match.

After a 4-0 run by the Poets in the second half, Isabel Osgood-Roach would go on a 3-0 run of her own cutting the lead to two with fifteen minutes remaining in the second half. Whittier would not budge though, as they would find the back of the net ten more times, in the remaining minutes.

Occidental attacker Osgood-Roach provided the Tigers with a surge of energy as she scored five times on the night, all in the second half. Rebecca Belding and Laura Mohler each led the Tigers in draw controls with four each.

Occidental (3-9, 0-4 SCIAC) will host their last home game of the 2011 season Wednesday, April 13 against University of Redlands. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
