Randolph-Macon Drops ODAC Tilt to Virginia Wesleyan
VIRGINA BEACH – Virginia Wesleyan got five goals from both Natalie Belva and Tara Harding as the Marlins used a big second half to break a halftime tie and go onto a 15-10 ODAC win over Randolph-Macon.
Erin Clare Cassidy led R-MC (5-6/3-2 ODAC) with five goals of her own, while Kelly Egan and Elyse Cooper each had a pair of goals in the loss for the Jackets.
Egan scored the first goal of the game 1:36 into the contest before Harding tied it at 1-1 with 26:56 to go in the first half.
R-MC then scored four of the five next goals, taking a 5-2 lead when Cassidy scored with just over 19 minutes to go in the half.
After Cassidy made the score 7-4, the Marlins scored the final three goals of the half, tying the score at seven all when Harding tallied a goal with just over seven minutes to go.
The game stayed that way through the intermission; VWC scored the first three goals of the second stanza, taking a 10-7 lead on a Harding goal with 26 minutes to go in the game. R-MC battled back cutting the Marlins lead to 10-9 on back-to-back goals by Cooper and Stephanie Serena.
That was as close as the Jackets would get as VWC ran off five straight scores to take a 15-9 lead with 2:13 left in the game. Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it heads to Hollins for a 2:00 p.m.
