Swarthmore Uses 9-1 Run to Down Wesley

DOVER, Del. - Swarthmore closed the first half wih the 9-1 run to break open a tie game and went on to defeat Wesley College 21-11.

Back-to-back goals by the Wolverines' (6-9) Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and Mia Paltrineri (Middletown, Del./Middletown) tied the game at 5-5 with 11:14 left in the first half. Analise Penikis scored less than a minute later as the Garnet (8-3) scored nine times in the final 10:23 of the half to go ahead 14-6 at the intermission.

Paltrineri, who entered the game with 12 goals on the year, scored a career-high five in the game. She also had seven ground balls and caused four turnovers. Nina Cornog (Wilmington, Del./Concord) had two goals and two assists, while Prudente scored twice to go with one helper.

Penikis had a 10-point evening with five goals and five assists to lead all players. She also had four ground balls and four draw controls. Marie Mutryn scored four goals and assisted on four others. Corinne Sommi had five goals and an assist, while Nicole Vanchieri scored four times and aided on one goal.

Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made 16 saves in the first 48:46 of action for the Wolverines.

Michelle Ammerman stopped 10 shots in goal for the Garnet.

Wesley hosts Mt. St. Vincent on April 10 as part of the Seventh Annual Dave Reynolds Lacrosse Festival.
