Nor'easters Blitz Amcats for 14 in First-Half on Way to Win

PAXTON, Mass. -- Ten different players scored as the University of New England racked up 14 goals in the first half en route to a 17-4 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory over Anna Maria College at Amcat Field Saturday afternoon.

The Nor'easters (4-8, 3-4 TCCC) were led by seniors Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) and Angel Jarmusz (Powell, Ohio) with three goals apiece. Cate also tallied three assists in the game. First-years Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), Cassidy Ruocco (Dover, N.H.), and Angela Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) each added a pair of scores.

Junior Jessy Dvorak (Windsor, Conn.) notched a goal and an assist for UNE, which finished with a 26-12 edge in shots and 29-16 advantage in ground balls. Sophomore Nicolle Steel (Petersburg, N.J.) chipped in with a goal and five caused turnovers.

Between the pipes, first-year Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) made six saves to earn the win.

Junior Katie Schebel recorded all four goals for the Amcats (1-11, 0-8), and picked up a game-best five ground balls. First-year Fabienne Jules posted six stops in goal for Anna Maria.

After Schebel opened up the scoring with a marker 27 seconds into the match, Big Blue registered the next six goals to gain control less than 12 minutes in. The Nor'easters tacked on eight more in the frame before Schebel made it 14-2 headed into halftime.

UNE hits the road on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. date at Curry College, while the Amcats are off until next Saturday when they travel to Regis College.
