Oake Nets Six to Lead W&J Past Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Junior midfielder Brittney Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) tied a career high with six goals as Washington & Jefferson defeated Saint Vincent 14-9 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (8-2) snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated the Bearcats (1-5) for the third consecutive season.

Oake scored twice in the opening 2:05 for a quick 2-0 lead and then ended the half with three scores in the final 5:26 to post an 11-3 halftime advantage.

The Bearcats netted the first two goals of the second half, but did not get closer than five goals the rest of the way. Liz Basile-Louison scored two times in the final two minutes to narrow the final margin to five.

Oake scored her six goals on eight shot attempts, while also picking up three ground balls, one assist and one draw control. Senior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and junior attacker Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) added hat tricks. Schrock, who also handed out one assist, now has 172 career goals.

Junior midfielder Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and sophomore midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG) tacked on one goal each. W&J outshot SVC by a 31-20 margin and grabbed 16 of the match's 24 draw controls.

Sophomore goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) played the first 42 minutes and made four saves, while senior Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) closed out the match and amassed three stops.

Emily Fedor led Saint Vincent with four goals. Meghan Reiser suffered the loss despite making 13 saves.

Washington & Jefferson begins a four-game road swing on Wednesday when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a 7:00 pm match with Mount Saint Joseph.
