Susquehanna Sees Win Streak Snapped by St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. Susquehanna's women's lacrosse team saw its six-game win streak snapped at the hands of a high-powered St. John Fisher team, falling 23-10 in Pittsford on Saturday afternoon.

The 23 goals were the most scored against SU (7-4) this season. The Cardinals (7-3) scored 16 of those 23 goals in the opening quarter and despite holding St. John Fisher to just seven goals in the second half, the Crusaders could not generate enough offense to mount a comeback.

Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and Lindsey Derstine (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored three goals apiece and Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) added two. McGinniss also chipped in an assist for a four-point afternoon.

SU freshman goalie Katelyn Brower (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex), making her second collegiate start, played all 60 minutes. Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS) led the team with eight draw controls while Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy) had a team-high four caused turnovers while scooping up three ground balls.

McGinniss tied the game at one with a free position goal less than four minutes into the game, but the Cardinals rattled off six unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead with 20 minutes still to play in the half. The teams traded goals with Dyer's goal at 13:01 making it 10-4, but St. John Fisher scored six of the half's final eight goals and led 16-6 at halftime.

The second half saw the Cardinals score five more unanswered goals to lead 21-6. The closing 17:47 of the game saw SU outscore St. John Fisher 4-2, but the Crusaders pulled no closer than 12 goals (21-9).

Next game: Wednesday, April 13 vs. Scranton (Landmark opener) 4:00 p.m.
