No. 9 Merrimack Edged by No. 7 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, NY The 9th-ranked Merrimack men's lacrosse team overcame a 5-0 deficit, but #6 Adelphi scored four of the final five goals to prevail with a 10-8 victory Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 5-2 at halftime, Merrimack knotted the score at five as Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) scored twice in a 1:13 span, and Mike Perdie (Wading River, NY) gave the visitors the lead 50-seconds later with an unassisted tally.

But Tommy Susko scored three of the next four goals to give the Panthers an 8-7 lead late in the third quarter. Danny Blau and Susko then scored 56 seconds apart early in the fourth, and Adelphi hung on for the victory, sending Merrimack to its second conference loss of the season.

Lunney finished with three goals while Brad McAdam (Neshanic Station, NJ) scored twice and grabbed a game-high six ground balls, tying with preseason All-American Pete Schielke (Ridgefield, CT). Greg Melaugh (Billerica, MA) picked up two goals and three points, while Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA) won 13 of 21 draws.

Merrimack outshot Adelphi 41-28, including 25-11 in the second half, but Eric Janssen stopped 16 shots, nine in the second half.

Susko finished with five goals, while Shane Wynn totaled three in the victory for the hosts.

Merrimack (7-3, 4-2 NE-10) heads to Saint Anselm on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. game with the Hawks.
