Langevin Nets OT Winner as Assumption Nips FPC

Worcester, Mass. (April 9) -- Senior Will Langevin (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) scored midway thru overtime on Saturday afternoon as Assumption held off Franklin Pierce for a thrilling 11-10 victory over the Ravens in Northeast-10 play. The Greyhounds have now tied the program's single-season record for victories at seven and are 7-4 overall.

Assumption controlled play throughout the first half, staking to a 5-0 halftime lead. Junior Tim Roy (Avon, Conn./Avon) posted a hat trick in a span of 4:43 over the first two quarters. His most spectacular play came on a man-up goal early in the second quarter as he fired a shot behind his head for a 3-0 advantage. Nicholas Violandi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and Connor MacNeil (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) added single goals in the first half as well.

The Ravens came out firing in the second half and cut the lead down to 5-2 just 3:15 into the third quarter on goals from Nate Wood and Ryan Dintaman. Franklin Pierce kept up the offensive attack over the remainder of the third, cutting the lead down to 7-5 on an Edward Noonan score with 6.9 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Franklin Pierce roared all the way back to tie the game at 8-8 with 8:22 left and eventually took a 9-8 lead on an even-strength goal from Noonan with 3:26 remaining in the game. Langevin tied the game just 16 seconds later on his second goal of the game and junior Tom Guido (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) gave the Hounds the lead back with 2:29 left in regulation.

Guido fired his shot into the upper right corner of the net, past Ravens netminder Tim Izzo. Dintaman and the Ravens weren't done though as he completed the hat trick in the final minutes and sent the game into the extra period.

In the extra period, MacNeil had the ball up top and found Langevin cutting towards the net from the right side for his third goal of the game and the team's second straight victory.

Langevin and Roy each had three goals for the Greyhounds, while Dintaman and Noonan both had three each for Franklin Pierce. Senior Scott Vogel (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) made 10 saves in the win for Assumption, while Izzo turned aside 19 shots in the defeat.

Assumption is now 7-4 overall and 3-3 in Northeast-10 play, while the Ravens fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the league. The Greyhounds are back in action on Tuesday, April 12th as the team travels to Adelphi for a 4:00 p.m. start in Garden City, N.Y.
