Tigers Use Fast Start to Blitz Dallas

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Ellie Cole scored four of her five goals during the opening 20:45 as Colorado College built an 11-0 lead and cruised to a 17-7 victory over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Leslie Jacoby and Madeline Scherer each struck for three goals and added an assist to help the Tigers improve to 9-1 with their fourth consecutive victory.

Hadley Bergh scored what proved to be the first game-winning goal of her career when she found the net 14:13 into the game.

Celina Gonzalez finally put the Crusaders on the board with 7:25 to play in the first half and scored again 2:24 later on a free-position shot to trim CC's advantage to 11-2. That, however, proved to be as close as UD would get.

Abby Fink made four saves for the Tigers in the first half, while Katy Stetson stopped one shot during the final 30 minutes.

Chris McFarland converted on three of five free-position shots and scored five goals during the second half. She also led the Crusaders with game highs of seven ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.

McFarland pulled Dallas to within 13-4 with her second goal, but Colorado College answered with the next three markers to build a 12-point lead, its largest of the game.

Sheridan Gribbon led the Tigers with five draw controls, had a pair of draw controls and caused two turnovers. Sarah Phillips had four draw controls to go along with a goal and two assists.

Colorado College had a 34-14 advantage in total shots, putting 27 on target compared to just 12 for the Crusaders. The Tigers also enjoyed a 21-14 edge in ground balls and won 15 of 25 faceoffs.

UD's Samantha Mason steered aside eight shots during the opening 30 minutes, while Anna Massey made a pair of saves in the second half.

Dallas converted on four of six free-position opportunities, while CC scored on just one of four. The Crusaders, who join CC as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference next season, slipped to 3-9.

Colorado College plays host to Westminster College on Sunday afternoon.
