No. 2 Colorado State Overpowers Lilndenwood

FORT COLLINS, Colo. The Rams overwhelmed the Lindenwood Lions with a 17-5 win this Saturday. The game gave the opportunity for almost the entire roster to play and to relax before facing only top 10 teams for the rest of the season, including Chapman on Monday and Colorado on Saturday.

"Yesterday was a nice win for our team. We needed a game like that where we could stretch our legs a little bit and forget about the pressure of playing in these huge games every weekend," head coach Alex Smith said. "Lindenwood is a good team, but we knew with them playing the night before that if we just kept running they would have a hard time keeping up towards the end."

The team started strong with seven goals in the first half; the defense only gave up three. The offense played strong, but the connection between senior Cooper Kehoe and sophomore Austin Fisher raised eyebrows. All five assists the senior attackman had went to Fisher.

"We were joking at halftime that maybe Cooper should start to pass it to someone else. But Austin was doing a great job getting open on the back side and getting himself in a good spot to finish," Smith said. "Sometimes you just take what they give you and Cooper and Austin had something good going today."

By the third quarter, most of the team had been on the field and contributed to the game, a strategy the coach says will keep them fresh for the bigger contests coming up.

"It was important that no matter who got in the game, it still looked the same. We played everyone on our roster except for two goalies and we take a lot of pride in our depth. Every team we will see over the rest of the regular season is in the top 10, so having these younger guys step up and be able to take control of these moments is very important."

The Rams will face two of those top-10 teams this week. They play Chapman, ranked No. 5, on Monday at 7:00 p.m. MST and Colorado, ranked No. 9, on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. MST. The game against Colorado, a school wide rival, will be a special event held at Invesco Field in Denver. More information on the "Rocky Mountain Showdown" is available at
