Shepherd Speeds Past Urbana for Victory
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman attack/midfielder Shannon Carta (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had five goals and sophomore attack/midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown added four to lead Shepherd to a 21-4 win over Urbana in action at Ram Stadium on Sunday.
Freshman attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) added a three goals and two assists, while sophomore attack Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) added two goals and a game-high three assists.
Freshman attack/midfielder Taylor Smith (Lutherville, MD/Mercy) and freshman attack Jenna Benke (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) each added a pair of goals, while senior defender/midfielder Lindsay Russell (Emmitsburg, MD/Catoctin), sophomore attack/midfielder Maddie Sullivan (Abingdon, MD/Institute of Notre Dame), and freshman attack/midfielder Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) each tallied a goal. Sullivan and Wharton each had an assist.
Brittany Mazzu had three goals to lead the Blue Knights.
Freshman Emily Melanson (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had six saves and classmate Katherine Lambert (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) added one in goal for the Rams. Allyson LeMasters had five saves and Darby Mitchell added three for Urbana.
Shepherd had a 33-17 advantage in shots and a 14-13 edge in draw controls. The Rams had a 28-18 advantage in ground balls.
Shepherd improves to 6-6, while Urbana falls to 2-12. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Shippensburg for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
