No. 5 Loyola Nets First 10 to Defeat Villanova
Paton kicked off a 5-0 Greyhounds run with a goal at 22:02, followed by Gavin's other two goals of the game. Joanna Dalton and Heneberry both scored – Dalton's coming on a Heneberry assist – to give Loyola a 7-1 advantage with 15:56 to play before halftime.
Rachel Lasda broke through for Villanova 2:36 after Heneberry's goal, but that was all the Wildcats would get in the first half.
Taryn VanThof tallied her first of the game on a Heneberry assist at 11:56, and Cara Filippelli used a VanThof assist to score just 18 ticks of the clock later.
Rehfuss capped the first half with a free-position goal 2:10 before the break.
Villanova scored twice to open the second stanza, but Paton scored back-to-back goals at 23:46 and 22:02 to push the Greyhounds' lead back to eight.
Kelly Quinlan added a free-position goal for the Greyhounds before Donodeo scored from the 8-meter for Villanova.
Allison Habicht scored her first collegiate goal for Loyola with 8:24 to play in the game, and Kathleen Barranco registered her first of the season with 2:08 to play. Barranco added an assist on a Paton goal with 1:10 to go, and Carly Miller capped the scoring with a Villanova goal nine seconds before the game's end.
Kerry Stoothoff and Meg Steffe evenly split the 60 minutes in goal for Loyola. Stoothoff made seven first-half saves, and Steffe had six in the second.
The Greyhounds have more than a week off before their next game. They host Georgetown at Ridley Athletic Complex on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 o'clock.
