Green Nets Winner in OT as Castleton Survives MMA

CASTINE, Maine - Freshman Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) scored four goals, including the game-winner with 1:48 remaining in overtime, to propel Castleton State to an 11-10 win over Maine Maritime Academy Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

With the win Castleton evens its record at 5-5, and remains unbeaten at 3-0 in conference play. Maine Maritime falls to 2-3, 1-2.

Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.) led the Spartans with five goals and one assist, while Sam Bailey (Hartford, Vt.) and Kenneth Bourneuf (Waterbury, Vt.) each had single goals.

Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) matched Kings effort with a five-goal, one-assist performance and Christopher Kieley (Holliston, Mass.) chipped in three goals and one assist. Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) added one goal and two assists, and Todd Murphy (Middlesex, Vt.) added a single marker.

Castleton led 4-3 with 9:40 remaining in the second period on a Green tally set up by King, but Maine Maritime exploded for five-straight goals and entered halftime with an 8-4 lead. Kiely and Corain each had a pair of goals during the Mariner run.

The Spartans answered in the third period, as King scored three quick goals, and Green knotted the score at eight-all with 5:33 left in the period. Corain grabbed the lead back for the Mariners, but goals inside of two minutes from Bailey and Green gave Castleton the 10-9 lead heading into the final period.

Corain sent the game into overtime with his fifth goal of the game, coming unassisted with 3:41 left.

Castleton held a 50-29 advantage in the shot column, but Mariner goalie Erik Milles (Bangor, Maine) had 21 saves to keep Maine Maritime in the game. David DeGhetto (Clifton, N.J.) finished with seven saves in the win.

The Spartans return to action at home Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. versus RPI.
