#2 Colorado State Wins Thriller vs. #5 Chapman

FORT COLLINS, Colo. The No. 2 Rams lead the No. 5 Chapman Panthers in a thrilling and close game on Monday night. The Rams shined as the team worked together and played the best they have against the very skilled Panthers to bring home an 11-9 win.

"This is one of the more complete lacrosse games we've played this year," head coach Alex Smith said. "I thought we really came to play in all phases of the game and we showed that when we have poise and focus on both ends of the field that we are very tough to beat."

At this stage of the season the players have are really connected on the field, leading the team to function well on all sides. This came in handy on Monday as the defense came together to shut down Chapman and transition the ball up the field.

"Chapman is a very good lacrosse team and I think we played really well tonight, particularly on defense," Smith said. "There were still a couple of breakdowns that we need to fix, but Hayden Porter, Tyler Zabor and Patrick Sullivan are really coming together as a group. And when Andy makes some of the saves he did tonight, that really makes the whole thing work."

At half time the score was tied 4-4 and the offense started to take the Rams into the lead. Smith was pleased with the way the offense valued the ball and didn't cause unforced turnovers, something which has hurt them in the past.

In the last quarter the Panthers stayed close on the scoreboard, but a couple goals toward the end kept the Rams ahead and sealed the win.

The Rams are now gearing up for the next big game against school rival, the Colorado Buffaloes. The game this Saturday will be at Invesco Field, adding to the excitement of the game.

"We know they were there watching tonight and we are going to get their best shot. I think we are in a good place as a team right now, but the fact is that records and rankings don't matter in a rivalry game like this," Smith said. "We will need to keep the focus and poise that carried us tonight and make it even that much better next Saturday. We are really looking forward to the challenge."
