No. 2 Le Moyne Routs Southern Connecticut

Syracuse, N.Y. Junior midfielder Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/UMass) registered seven points to lead second-ranked Le Moyne to a 20-1 win over Southern Connecticut in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

The Dolphins scored the game's first four goals over the opening two minutes and 11 seconds. Senior midfielder Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) started the scoring with an unassisted tally 44 seconds into the contest.

Freshman Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) then connected on a pair of goals in a span of 22 seconds off passes from behind the goal by senior Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell). Phillips added her 19th goal of the year 34 seconds after the second goal by Nies to cap the scoring burst off a feed from Brigandi.

Southern Connecticut's Elaina Heiple won the ensuing draw and moved up field before being fouled. She then converted a free-position shot to get the Owls on the board at the 27:26 mark.

Le Moyne answered with four goals in a span of 3:47 to increase its lead to 8-1 with 22:19 left in the half. Senior midfielder Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) began the run with an unassisted goal with 26:06 to go. Nies completed her first career hat trick 36 seconds later after taking a pass from sophomore attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton).

Just under a minute and a half later, Elmer tallied her 22nd goal of the campaign off a feed from Barzee. Brigandi closed out the streak with 22:19 left with her 39th goal of the year.

The Dolphins increased their lead to 13-1 at the half with five goals over the final 17 minutes and 26 seconds of the stanza. Sophomore Kelly Condon (Victor, N.Y./Canandaigua) scored Le Moyne's ninth goal with 17:26 left off a pass from classmate Gabrielle Kamide (Deferiet, N.Y./Carthage). Just over a minute later, senior Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) netted her 19th goal of the campaign with a drive to the cage.

Condon increased the lead to double-digits with 13:57 remaining off a feed from Brigandi. After nine minutes of scoreless action, sophomore Kathryn Barry (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) recorded her second goal of the season. Elmer closed out the scoring in the half with 13 seconds left after taking a feed from junior Stephanie Dussing (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden).

Le Moyne scored three times over the opening 10 minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 16-1. Freshman Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored the first of the half at the 25:32 mark. Brigandi followed two and one-half minutes later with her 40th tally of the year, becoming the 10th Dolphin in the program's history to reach that plateau and the first since Whitney Vecchio '08 during the 2008 season. Condon then took a feed from Brigandi at the 20:33 mark to complete her hat trick.

Condon and Brigandi connected again two and one-half minutes later to make the score 17-1. Senior Leah Lazarz (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) added her fifth goal of the year at the 14:25 mark. Brigandi picked up her third goal and seventh point of the afternoon with 8:26 remaining after receiving a pass from Dussing. Dussing capped the scoring in the game with 3:50 to go off a feed from Condon.

Junior goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) earned the win in between the pipes to become the fourth Dolphin to record 10 victories in a season. Lynette Martinez took the loss in goal for the Owls.

Le Moyne (10-1, NE-10 6-1), which has scored 20 goals four times this season, including three of the last four games, returns to the field on Saturday at Saint Anselm at 11:00 a.m.
