No. 4 Limestone Crushes Converse for CC Title

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Junior attack Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals as No. 4 Limestone (13-0, 7-0 CC) completed its march to an eighth consecutive conference regular season championship and third undefeated campaign in the last four years, as they handed Converse (3-14, 1-6 CC) a 20-3 loss on Tuesday, April 12.

With the victory, Limestone earns the No. 1 seed in the 2011 Conference Carolinas Tournament and will face No. 4 Queens (8-8, 4-3) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. The Saints have earned at least a share of every conference championship with seven outright titles.

Limestone opened with five straight goals over the first 8:16 before the Valkyries Lacey Bevilacqua found the back of the net at 15:37. Four consecutive scores, headlined by a pair from freshman midfielder Jessica Aguanno (Delray Beach, Fla.), then stretched the lead to 9-1 with 12:20 left in the half. Bevilacqua notched her second goal 19 seconds later to make it 9-2 but that would be the last of the offense for Converse until the very end of the game.

After allowing that second score, the Saints delivered 11 consecutive goals, including three by Treat, to stretch their lead to 20-2 with 10:43 remaining in the game. Brooke Bondurant would then get the Valkyries on the board one more time with a goal at the 2:12 mark before Limestone closed out the 17-goal victory.

Lacey Bevilacqua led Converse with a pair of goals and added an assist while Brooke Bondurant had the only other goal. Cassie Fara added an assist to close out the offense while Tabitha Chamblee started in goal but played only 9:31 as she allowed four goals to take the loss and drop to 3-10. Madison Noland played the majority of time in net as she allowed 16 goals in more than 50 minutes of action.

Chelsea Treat's four goals led the offensive onslaught for Limestone while freshman attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) added two goals and two assists to go along with four ground balls. That performance follows her first ever Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Award which was announced earlier in the day.

Joining her with two goals were Jessica Aguanno, junior attack Racquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.). Prager also led the team with six ground balls while Aguanno and Farrell each added three ground balls. Senior attack Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) dished out a game-high three assists and Aguanno added one. Junior attack Kelly Lalonde chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Sophomore goalie Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) started and played 46:26, allowing only a pair of goals while making seven saves to improve to a perfect 13-0 on the season.

Limestone heads to Charlotte, N.C. for the 2011 Conference Carolinas Tournament where they will take on Queens in the first round. That game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at The Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.
