Pacific Flies by Linfield to Gain 10th Victory

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Pacific secured the first 10-win season in program history with a barrage of scoring Tuesday night as three players scored hat tricks and a total of 10 Pacific players tallied goals in a 19-8 victory over Linfield in the women's lacrosse regular season finale at the Linfield Lacrosse Field.

Monica Smith (Jr., Wilsonville, Ore.), Kaitlyn Harper (So., Oregon City, Ore.) and Carmen Taplin (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) each tallied three goals in a rout that saw the Boxers outscore Linfield 12-1 in the first half. Three Boxers added two goals, including Kelly Stevens (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Natalie Getchell (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Ella VankeKamp (Jr., Alameda, Calif.).

With the victory, Pacific (10-4) secures the first 10-win season in the program's five-year history and their second straight winning season. It also marks the first that the Boxers have completed a season sweep of their Northwest opponents, going 5-0 against Linfield and Puget Sound.

Anna Gorciak, Brittani Drost and Mariah Jones each scored two goals to lead Linfield (1-12). The Wildcats were outshot by the Boxers 32-18 and limited to just four first half attempts. Pacific also held a 14-13 advantage in draw controls.

Stevens and Smith scored the first two goals of the game for the Boxers before Gorciak tallied on a free position shot at the 23:20 mark to cut the lead to 2-1. The clock would run for almost 30 minutes before the Wildcats scored again as the Boxers scored the next 13 goals in a row. VandeKamp scored her first two goals within a minute of each other to start the marathon run. Harper scored the first of her three goals in the streak with 18:12 to go while Taplin tallied twice in the final minute to give the Boxers a 12-1 halftime lead.

Pacific went on to score the first three goals of the second half, with even goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann (So., Portland, Ore.) getting into act with a goal at the 28:14 mark. Sierra Edgerly finally put Linfield back on the board with her unassisted goal with 23:52 to go, opening up a string of three unanswered goals for the Wildcats.

The Boxers responded with a three-goal run of their own, capped by Rachel Wong's (So., Oregon City, Ore.) goal off a Smith assist with 12:18 left. The Wildcats went on to score four of the final five goals of the contest.

Hartmann made six saves in the win and in the process secured season records with 10 wins and a 10.63 goals against average. Hayley Steele finished with seven saves in the loss for Linfield.

Tonight's game marked the final regular season game for six Pacific players, including Getchell, Smith, VandeKamp, Molly Bailey (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.), Stephanie Manning (Sr., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Sydney Vincent (Jr., Portland, Ore.).
