Ninth-Ranked Stevens Grounds the Hawks

HOBOKEN, NJ 9th-ranked Stevens finished the first half on an 11-0 run en route to a 20-4 victory over Hartwick on Wednesday at De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, NJ. The Ducks improve to 10-2 and remain unbeaten in the Empire 8 at 5-0. The Hawks fall to 5-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Sophomores Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point), Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields), and freshmen Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) and Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/S. Brunswick) scored goals for Hartwick. Junior Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) registered an assist.

The Hawks trailed by a 4-2 margin after 10 minutes of action after McGovern and McCabe tallied. The Ducks, however, would score seven times over the next 10 minutes to take control of the match. Stevens added another four tallies in the final 8:24 of the opening half for a 15-2 edge at the break.

The Ducks would outscore the Hawks 5-2 in the second half. Scicchitano and Sisco each added unassisted tallies for 'Wick in the period.

Keeper Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland), who stopped a season-high 14 shots, registered a game-high five ground balls for Hartwick. She also tied for a team-high with senior defender Bianca Gianfrate (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) with two caused turnovers. Scicchitano added a team-best three draws and added two ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Ducks were led by Christine Smith and Joey Galligan who each scored four goals. Spencer Waybright, Pamela Loria, and Michelle Buonacore each had a five-point day.

The Hawks return home for a pair of Empire 8 games this weekend. 'Wick hosts Nazareth on Saturday, April 16 and St. John Fisher the following day. Both games are set to start at 1:00 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
