Strong Finish Leads Red Devils Past Green Terror

(Carlisle, Pa.) Dickinson College found its way back into the win column, turning back McDaniel College, 14-10, on Wednesday.

The Red Devils struck first with early goals from Lauren Jonas (Resiterstown, Md./McDonogh) and Kelsey Muir (Glen Mills, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) in a span of just 36 seconds, and closed out the game with a 4-0 run down the stretch.

The Devils answered a McDaniel goal from Paige Messersmith with two goals in 30 seconds by Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Ella Clough (Chicago, Ill./Ignatius College Prep) to put the Devils up, 4-1, at the 21:35 mark.

The Green Terror battled back to tie the game with three straight goals as Brittany Lines struck once and dished out an assist during the run.

The teams continued to trade goals with Dickinson pulling in front, 7-5, with 5:23 to play in the first half. McDaniel scored twice to close out the half and tie the game, 7-7, at the break.

Muir opened the second with a free position goal just 48 seconds into the period. McDaniel struck with a pair of goals in a span of just 10 seconds to take their only lead of the game, 9-8, with 25:34 remaining in the game.

Junior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) dished out an assist to Muir and scored on her own to give the Devils a brief, 10-9 advantage. Lauren McCadden tied the game one final time, converting a free position attempt with 18:37 left to play.

Ko put the Devils up for good, starting a 4-0 run to close out the game with a free position goal at the 17:23 mark. Senior Lucy West (Bethesda, Md./Holton-Arms) sandwiched a pair of unassisted goals around a final tally from Abbassian with an assist from Linzi Burstein (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams).

Lines finished with two goals and an assist to lead the McDaniel (1-12, 1-7) attack. Aimee Semler made 11 saves for the Green Terror.

Muir finished with a hat-trick. Ko tallied three goals as well, adding five ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Abbassian struck twice and dished out a pair of assists.

Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) made four save in goal while Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) came on to earn the win in the second half with just one save in the second half.

The Red Devils improve to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College at 3:00 pm.

CARLISLE, Pa. Sunnie Ko scored three times, including breaking a 10-all deadlock, to lead Dickinson to a 14-10 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the Green Terror (1-12, 1-7 CC) with two goals and an assist while Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Lauren McCadden (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added two goals apiece.

Kelsey Muir added three goals for the Red Devils (5-9, 2-4 CC), who scored four goals in the final 17:23 of the game for the victory.

Tied at 10-all after McCadden found the back of the net on a free-position attempt with 18:37 to play, Ko answered with a free-position tally of her own 1:14 later to put the hosts on top.

Lucy West notched a pair of unassisted goals around a Linzi Burstein-to-Taryn Abbassian tally to extend the lead to its final margin the largest by either team in the game.

Lauren Jonas and Muir staked Dickinson to a 2-0 lead before 2:54 had elapsed with tallied just 36 seconds apart.
