Washington & Jefferson Sails by Mount Saint Joseph

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Senior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored six goals as Washington & Jefferson built a 13-2 halftime lead and cruised past Mount Saint Joseph 19-5 in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening.

The Presidents (9-2) scored the first eight goals of the game and has now outscored MSJ (1-12) by a 35-9 margin over the past two seasons.

Four different Presidents scored in the first 10:25 and junior midfielder Brittney Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) followed with back-to-back goals four minutes apart for a 6-0 lead. Senior attacker Shannon Wagner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) and junior attacker Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) added goals in the early 8-0 spurt.

Schrock scored three times in the final seven minutes of the half to establish the 11-goal lead at the break. W&J put the game away with the first five goals of the second half.

Schrock added one assist to finish with seven points, while Oake collected four goals and one assist. Novak and junior midfielder Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) both had two-goal efforts, while Wagner, sophomores Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG) and Megan Kelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) and freshman Amy Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Jamie Battaglia (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) all added one goal.

Sophomore goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) did not have to make a save in the 17 minutes of action she saw, while senior Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) notched five stops in closing out the match.

W&J held a 46-12 advantage in shots and a 29-10 edge in ground balls. Amanda Holmes paced the Lions with four goals, while Paige Apel finished with 20 saves in the net.

W&J aims for a three-game win streak on Friday evening when it travels to Ohio Wesleyan for a 7:30 pm match.
