Mount Saint Vincent Bested by Richard Stockton

Pomona, N.J. The College of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a 13-8 Skyline Conference decision on Wednesday night at Richard Stockton. Seniors Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) and Cavan Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each scored three goals for the Dolphins, with Shea setting the single season points record at the Mount with 54.

After the two teams finished the first quarter tied at 4-4, the Ospreys outscored the Mount 9-4 over the final three periods. Mount Saint Vincent battled back from a 2-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the first after back-to-back goals from Valance and Shea. Stockton knotted the score with at the 1:44 mark on one of five goals from Matt Bologno.

The one goal lead the Dolphins enjoyed at the 5:10 mark of the first period would be their only advantage of the evening. The Ospreys outscored the Mount 6-2 over the second and third quarters, before the Dolphins got back to within three at 11-8 at the 8:27 mark of the fourth. Stockton would respond with a pair of goals under 20 seconds apart to push the lead to the final five goal advantage.

Shea and Valance were the only multi goal scorers for the Dolphins in the game. Shea added an assist to lead the team with four points and break his previous single season point record of 52. Derek Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) added a goal and assist off the bench for the Mount.

Bologno finished the game with an eight point night with five goals and three helpers for the Ospreys. Drew Flagler also had a strong night for Stockton with three markers and an assist.

Mount Saint Vincent freshman netminder Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished the contest with 17 saves for the Dolphins, including seven in the second quarter. Kalibat also led the team with five groundballs. Tim Wolcott finished the night with 13 stops and a pair of groundballs.

Richard Stockton outshot Mount Saint Vincent on the night 52-33 and also held the edge in groundballs 45-32. Bologno also led all players on the night with nine groundballs. Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) added four for Mount Saint Vincent.

Richard Stockton also had the better of the face-off category on Wednesday, winning 16 of the 24 draws taken. Bologno rounded out a strong all-around evening with 10 face-off victories. John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) won six for the Dolphins.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 6-5 overall on the season and to 1-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to match the program's single season wins record on Saturday when they travel to Montclair St. Face-off with the Red Hawks is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
