Oswego Scores 14 Straight to Rout Morrisville

OSWEGO, N.Y. - After finding itself down by two goals, Oswego State responded by rattling off 14 consecutive goals before earning a 17-3 victory over non-conference Morrisville Thursday afternoon at South Athletic Field.

The Lakers outshot the Mustangs 39-13 in the contest, as nine players got in on the scoring act with Rachael Raffa leading the way with five goals to go along with two assists. Oswego State improved to 5-3 overall, and will travel to Brockport on Saturday to face the Golden Eagles. Morrisville dropped to 4-5 with the loss.

Hillary Hartnett registered both of her goals for the Mustangs in the first ten minutes of the game. However, senior Bri Borrow got the Laker offense started at 11:42 in the half after putting away a rebound for the first of hthree goals on the day. The score stood at 2-1 for nearly five minutes until Oswego State scored four goals in under three minutes to go ahead 5-2. Stephanie Cronk, Kelly Collins, Raffa, and Danielle Citro tacked on goals for the home team before the end of the half to give the Lakers a commanding 9-2 halftime advantage.

Oswego State continued to pressure the Morrisville defense by adding five more goals, including a pair from Kelly Schroeder, before ten minutes had run off the clock in the second half. Other Laker scorers included Courtney Cosentino, Erin Cummings, and Kristen Darcy. Jamie Anderson tallied a goal for the Mustangs near the midway point of the stanza, but Raffa recorded the final two goals of the game.

Ashlee Engel posted seven saves on 10 shots for the Lakers, while Allison Strub registered 14 saves on 31 shots for Morrisville. Not only did the Oswego State defense hold the opposition to 13 total shots, but it also was a perfect 19 for 19 in clear attempts and caused eight of the Mustangs' 17 turnovers.
