Hawks Can't Match the Mustangs' Offense

Hamburg, NY The Hilbert Hawks hosted their first home game on campus this afternoon against the Mustangs from Morrisville State in men's lacrosse in front of 100 fans. Morrisville (7-2) took the win from the Hawks (26-15) but the fan support at the game carried the team through to the final horn.

By the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs were on a roll outscoring the Hawks 9-2. In the second quarter, the Hawks picked up their intensity and capitalized on their face-off victories cutting into Morrisville's 13-7 lead. Ryan Wagner (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) led the Hawks with 2 of his team-leading 6 goals in the second period explosion.

The experience of varsity play showed in the second half with Morrisville outscoring the Hawks 13-8 en route to their fifth in a row victory. Morrisville's seniors Adam Lewis and Andrew Steins netted 7 and 6 goals for the Mustangs in the win.

Ranked 10th nationally in face-off win percentage and 16th in points per game, Wagner increased his percentage by winning 32 of his 41 face-offs. Hilbert freshman Sean Purtill (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) contributed 2 goals and 3 assists while classmate and 35th in national rankings for points per game, Josh Baker (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added 3 goals and 1 assist.

Hilbert (5-5) looks forward a rematch with La Roche College on their home field April 19 with a 3:30 pm start. The Hawks will honor their seniors prior to the game.
