Shenandoah Falls to Greensboro in USAS Semifinals

BURLINGTON, N.C. - No. 2 Greensboro College used a six-goal second half run past No. 3 Shenandoah 10-5 in the second USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament semifinal Friday afternoon at Springwood Park.

Shenandoah ends its most successful season ever with a 12-5 mark.

Sophomore Amy Rollins scored the first goal of the game on a free position in the first five minutes, but Greensboro (10-3) would have an answer.

Layne Woodard, Ashley Nolen and Brittany Zioboro had three unanswered for the Pride to take a 3-1 lead with 7:48 remaining in the first.

Fortunately for the Hornets, 2011 USA South Rookie of the Year Samantha Sisson was able to tie it with two goals in the last 6:25 of the half to send the teams into halftime knotted at 3-3.

Unfortunately for SU, Greensboro came out and rattled off six straight to take a lead it would not relinquish. Brittany Zioboro and Melissa Gallaher had two apiece during this run.

Following a Hornets time out, Liz Grover and Sisson scored to cut the deficit to four, but this would be as close as Shenandoah would come.

Ziobro paced the Pride with three goals and an assist while Woodard had two goals and two assists. Jessica Catanzano made 13 saves in goal.

Sisson led Shenandoah with three goals while Rollins and Grover each scored one.

Ashley Cross made nine saves in the losing effort.

With the win, Greensboro advances to the USA South Tournament Championship for the sixth straight year.
